I had the good fortune of sitting next to Candace (WIF Malibu) on the plane to Park City last January - I had been meaning to join Women in Film, just hadn't gotten around to it. Cut to: Candace, warm and gracious, inviting me to the wonderful WIF Sundance Panel - I was hooked.
I've been a member since January and I love this group and the incredible programs they offer.
I decided to find a way to get more involved, so I created a group for WIF Members called WIF Goal Support Group.

Tisch Gala '09 - New York City
I have just gotten back from NYC and a wonderful New York University Event at Jazz at Lincoln Center. I am a proud graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts (BFA Drama)and was thrilled to be attending the TSOA Gala '09 honoring: Brian Grazer & Ron Howard, Marcia Gay Harden '88, Diana King and Sheila Nevins and featuring: Kristen Johnston '89, Tony Kushner '84, Spike Lee '82, Richard Plepler, and Sir Howard Stringer.
Johnny Grant: Rest in Peace
Johnny Grant, my beloved friend died last night (01-09-08), he was 84 years young.
He had made an indelible impression on me in the brief time that I was fortunate to know him. He taught me grace by the example with which he lived.
He was not only the honorary Mayor of Hollywood, he was the Mayor everywhere we went... the airport in Atlanta, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba... he was a first class act.
I observed when I was with him that he treated everyone like a Hollywood Star... when we were having lunch at The Roosevelt; he knew all the employees by name and greeted them with exuberance. He inspired me with his love of people and his unshakable good nature.
Our trip to Cuba was grueling travel for even a young person; he never once uttered a complaint. I can't say the same for myself, but hopefully someday others will be able to say that about me and if they do, I'll tell them that I learned from the best... Johnny Grant.

I just posted a few pics from our amazing trip. The people in GTMO are the absolute best. I have always respected the military and now I have an even deeper respect and a newfound warmspot in my heart for all that they do. I was honored to be a part of the group that traveled there from Hollywood. Johnny Grant, the Honorary Mayor of Hollywood, is one of the kindest, most fun gentleman I have ever met. He entertained us with stories of old Hollywood and I asked him questions about Marilyn Monroe... I have some great stories now!! The whole group was great.
